Varian Fry
Varian Fry, a 32-year-old Harvard-educated classicist and editor from New York City, helped save thousands of endangered refugees who were caught by the Nazi Party in World War II. He saved about 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust time. At great personal risk, Varian Fry set up contacts with the French Resistance and the Corsican mob, hired forgers, bribed border guards, and he personally escorted some Jews. His courageous acts we not highlighted like Oskar Schindler and others…but no matter what he wasa true hero.
